The 2003 well dressing took place at Bugsworth Basin from the July 5 to to 13. The dedication, was on Sunday, July, 6 was a first for the new minister of Chinley Chapel 'Edmonde'. The theme for this year is the 'International Year of Fresh Water', so the main board depicts the' The Cascade' at Chatsworth House and the new fountain 'Revelation' appears on the side panels. Once again Buxworth Primary School pupils assistied in the creation of the headboard, upon which the Cavendish snake featured. We appreciate the tremendous amount of co-operation that we have received from the Chatsworth Estate and in particular the personal interest the the Duchess of Devonshire has shown in the project. An added attraction was the exhibition of a wide range of local handicrafts, which were viewed throughout the week at at Buxworth Church. Organised by 'Well ladies' Joan Cross and Margaret Holford the display, produced by local people to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation and will included a selection of coronation memorabilia. A second well dressing, designed by and created by the Girl Guides was sited at Buxworth churchyard, the theme is the 50th anniversary of the Trefoil Guild. Buxworth Welldressing Commitee have actively encouraged the foundation of this new venture by offering both advice and materials. Buxworth Welldressers held a well dressing workshop at the Chestnut Centre near Chapel-en-le-Frith and a well dressing workshops were held at the Navigation Inn starting on June 30 from 9.30am till dusk. There are three practice boards for visitors to try well dressing first hand - all were welcome. A high-resolution image of the 2003 well dressing can be downloaded here |
